For Great Road Trips

Fairview Curve Viewpoint at Rocky Mountain National Park

Colorado in 10 Days

Start: Denver, CO
End: Denver, CO
Length: 10 Days (with options to shorten it)

This is one of my favorite road trips ever. You’ll visit all four of Colorado’s National Parks and do loads of scenic driving. If you’re interested in epic views and hikes, this is the itinerary for you.

Double Arch at Arches National Park

Utah National Parks (+ Grand Canyon) in 10 Days

Start: Las Vegas, NV
End: Las Vegas, NV
Length: 10 Days

On this itinerary, you’ll visit all five of Utah’s National Parks, plus the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. It’s another of my favorites US road trips ever.

For Great Non-Road Trip Itineraries

The Best of Spain in 10 Days

Start: Barcelona
End: Madrid
Length: 10 Days (with options to shorten it)

Spain has so much to offer, but with just ten days you can get a god taste. Admire La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, The Alhambra in Granada, Flamenco in Sevilla, the Royal Palace in Madrid and so much more.

Five Days in Iceland Without a Car

Start: Reykjavik
End: Reykjavik
Length: 5 Days

Do you want to travel around Iceland, but are nervous about renting a car? Here’s the five day, no rental car itinerary that I used. From Reykjavik, I explored the South Coast and the Golden Circle.

View of the Eiffel Tower from the Arc di Triomphe

Five Days in Paris – The Perfect Itinerary

A slightly different itinerary, because I don’t often spend five days in one city. Paris is where I make an exception. There’s world class museums, amazing sights, delicious food, and I just love spending time in this city.

Paris, Belgium, & Amsterdam Itinerary: 10 Days in Europe

This is one of my favorite itineraries in Europe. Spend three days in Paris before hopping over to Belgium and getting an overview the best cities. Finish in the Netherlands where you’ll have a chance to visit Amsterdam and at least one other Dutch city.

For Great One or Two Day Adventures

Flowers take over the church in Mascota

Talpa and Mascota from Puerto Vallarta

My family and I sacrificed one day on the beach in Puerto Vallarta and took a trip into the mountains of Mexico. We visited the “Pueblos Magicos” of Mascota and Talpa. Both towns are adorable, but the mountain scenery stole our hearts.

Sunrise at Monument Valley

You can do a self-driving tour of Monument Valley, but a guided tour allows you to some areas of the park you wouldn’t otherwise be able to visit. And by doing it at sunrise you get stunning views and virtually no other tourists.

Grandview Point at Grand Canyon

One Day on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon

I loved my visit to the Grand Canyon. With one day in Tusayan, you can rent a bike to ride along the rim, hike into the canyon, check out some viewpoints, and finish with sunset over the Grand Canyon. It’s a perfect day.

The Alhambra

How to Spend 2-3 Days in Granada Spain

Granada, Spain was a huge surprise. I went in with low expectations. Once I left, I wanted to immediately return. In Granada, you’ll see the Alhambra, which is amazing, but there’s some fun neighborhoods and a nice, relaxing vibe.

On the roof of Amboise Chateau

How to Explore the Loire Valley Without a Car (+ Two Day Itinerary)

The chateaux of the Loire Valley are spectacular. But if you research, everyone says you have to rent a car. While a rental car will give some convenience, I traveled by train and had a fabulous two days.

Covered Bridge in Vermont

9 Things to Do in Stowe, Vermont in the Fall

For a town of only 300 people, Stowe, VT sure has a lot to do. Out of all of the places I visited on my New England road trip, it was Stowe that I loved the most. From great foods, some amazing views, and general charm, Stowe, VT has something for everyone.

Highway 60 from Cañon City to Salida

The Best Scenic Drives in Colorado

I love adding scenic drives to my road trips, so my Colorado road trip was pretty epic. There’s scenic drives all over this state–so many in fact, that it can be hard to pick which to include. This post contains my favorite scenic drives in Colorado. Whether you add all of them, or just one, to your itinerary, you’re sure to have a beautiful drive.

View of New River Gorge from the Endless Wall Trail

New River Gorge: One Day Itinerary and Best Things to Do

Admittedly, New River Gorge was a national park I almost overlooked, but it ended up being one of my favorites. With some amazing views and plenty of hikes, you’ll find plenty to do here. And, if you’re like me, you’ll find yourself wanting to return one day.

Tips for Visiting the Keukenhof Gardens

The Keukenhof Gardens were a highlight of my trip to the Netherlands. These spectacular gardens are only open for two months every year, but they are still known as some of the best gardens in Europe. With tulips and more flowers than you can imagine, this is a great place to spend a few hours.

For Travel Mishaps and Fun Stories

Sky Pond at Rocky Mountain National Park

Sky Pond – What Not to Do On Your Hike

After a week of hiking in Colorado, I was feeling great. Then I decided to hike to Sky Pond in Rocky Mountain National Park’s Bear Lake Road Corridor. It did not go as planned and I hiked four miles back to my car with a very injured knee.

Ten Travel Lessons from My Trip to Rome

Originally posted on my travel blog ten years ago, I’ve since reworked this post. It’s a reflection from me ten years ago, but it’s amazing how many of those travel lessons still apply today.
